Jerry Donald Mcmillan

Jerry Donald McMillan, 89, of Gastonia passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home. He was born July 29, 1935, in Cherryville, NC, a son of the late John Arthur McMillan and Lassie Buchanan McMillan.

Jerry was drafted into the military in September 1958 as a military police officer. That same year he was sent to serve in Pirmasens, Germany. He was honorably discharged in September 1960. Upon returning home, he returned to his job at Firestone Textiles. In September 1961, he was called for reserve duty at Fort Gordon, Georgia during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served until September 1962, when he was honorably discharged. Jerry returned to his job at Firestone Textiles where he worked for over 42 years. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Yorkwood Church of God for 59 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hayden McMillan, Earl McMillan, Leonard McMillan and Richard McMillan.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Charlotte Christopher McMillan; his sons, Reggie McMillan (Lynn), Huey McMillan (Jenny), Marvin McMillan and Phillip McMillan; his five grandchildren, David McMillan, Christopher McMillan, Rebecca McMillan Perry (Justin), Stephen McMillan and Jonathan McMillan; and great-grandchild, Adelyn Perry; sisters, Betty Guffey, LouAnn McMillan; brother, James McMillan (Samantha).

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Dr. Stephen Darnell. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service.

The burial will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City with military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard and the Army National Guard.
