Betty Jo Smith

Betty Jo Smith, 83, of Gastonia passed away September 7, 2018 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas.

She was born October 19, 1934, in Chester County, SC, the daughter of the late Walter and Jessie Lowery Widener.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother and was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.

She enjoyed her time with her family and also raised her great-grandson Gatlin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grier Smith; sons, Christopher Wages and Randall Lee Wages; grandson, Bradley Allen Thomas; sisters, Mary Propst and Faye Adams; brother, Tommy Widener.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Rhonda Jacqueline Thomas and husband, Dennis of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Cory Wages, Matthew Thomas and wife Tricia, Mark Thomas and wife Jennifer, Brittany Jeffreys and husband Nathan, Brad and wife Monica; great-grandchildren, Gatlin Wages, Bradley Julio, Ashton, Kendyl, Bradley, Josephine, Abby, Layla, Landen, Madelyn, and Wesley.

A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Drew Pelletier and Pastor Bobby Ammons, will be held 2 pm Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
