Wilmer Arnell Martin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wilmer Arnell Martin Jr., who left us on October 30, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on May 14, 1957, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Wilmer spent his life in Gastonia, where he became a well-respected machinist in the machine shop industry, since the age of eighteen.

Wilmer was a true outdoorsman at heart. He found joy in fishing and hunting, spending countless hours in nature, savoring the simple pleasures of life. He had a spirit that resonated with adventure and a love for the great outdoors that he cherished deeply.

Wilmer is survived by his mother, Gail Thacker; son, Jesse Martin (Roberta); brothers, Rick Martin and Joseph Martin; sister, Linda Martin; stepbrothers and stepsister, Kim Cheney (Ronnie), Scott Thacker (Karen), Chris Thacker; grandson, Anthony; who will remember him fondly for his warmth and love for life.

In honor of Wilmer's life, the family will hold a Memorial Service, Thursday, November 6, 2025, 2:00 PM, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, 2616 Davis Park Drive Gastonia, NC.

Wilmer will be sorely missed, but his spirit will remain with us as we remember the laughter, the adventures, and the love he shared. Rest in peace, Wilmer.

Wilmer was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer Martin, Sr., stepfather, Russell Thacker.
