William Leonard Tench, Jr., 89, of Dallas passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia. Mr. Tench was born November 19, 1925 in Habersham County, GA to the late Leonard and Margie Mackey Tench. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Wilson, Leona Wilson-Brown, and Maude Mae Carter. Mr. Tench was a veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II. Mr. Tench was retired from Firestone Mills after 38 years of service and was also retired from Tench Repair Shop. Mr. Tench had a love for gardening and sharing what he grew with others. He was a member of Northside Community Baptist Church in Dallas. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Pauline Phillips Tench; sister, Lurlene Meeks of Cornelia, GA; brother, Harold Tench of Seneca, SC; sons, Earl Tench, Alvin and wife, Sherry, Ralph and special friend, Laurie Lockridge; daughter, Vivian Friday and husband, John; granddaughter, Ashley F. Sisk and husband, J.W.; grandsons, Jarrett C. Friday and wife, Jaime, Andy and Jonathan Tench; great-grandchildren, Dylan & Austin Falls and Holly & Skylar Tench. Funeral services will be held 3 pm Friday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Pastor John Johnson, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the High Shoals Cemetery, High Shoals, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Community Baptist Church - 109 E. Field Drive, Dallas, NC 28034.
