William "Gene" Scruggs, Sr.

William "Gene" Scruggs, Sr., 76, of Gastonia, passed away October 29, 2014 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. He was born February 4, 1938 in Spartanburg, SC, son of the late William and Ruby Henderson. Gene loved his family and pets. He was an avid bowler and could grill an awesome steak. He is survived by his sons, William Scruggs, Jr. and wife, Robin, Jimmy Scruggs and wife, Felicia; daughters, Glenda Moses and husband, Dale, Teresa Worley; brother, Carroll Scruggs; sisters, Ann Stanley and Ollie Garmon; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Doby Scruggs; son, William Gerald Scruggs; daughters, Terry Ballard and Tracie Scruggs; one brother and three sisters. A funeral service will be held 2 pm on Saturday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Fred Morris. Visitation will be held 7 - 9 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
