William Jay Pietz, a beloved husband, scholar, and lifelong learner, passed away on February 7, 2026, just shy of his 75th birthday. Born on February 20, 1951, in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, William's journey through life took him from the classrooms of academia to the hearts of those who loved him in Gastonia, North Carolina.
A devoted professor with a passion for reading and writing, William was as academic as they come. He was a professor at Pitzer University in CA, where he taught religious history and creative writing. He edited books and authored two, sharing his insights and knowledge with countless students and colleagues throughout his career. His thirst for knowledge and love for learning were infectious, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
William is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Pietz, who stood by his side through all the highs and lows of life. They built a beautiful life together, filled with shared passions and endless support for one another's endeavors. Also left to cherish his memories are his stepson, Greg Stokes; grandson, Tyler Stokes; great grand daughters, Madison Stokes and Elizabeth Stokes; brother, Peter Pietz.
William was preceded in death by parents, Ervin Pietz and Helen Moffat; brothers, Paul Pietz and Merle Pietz.
