BESSEMER CITY, NC - William "Will" Paul Moretz passed away while at home on May 13, 2020. He was 78 years of age. Will was welcomed into this world by his parents Paul P. Moretz and Mary "Sue" Best along with his older sister, Sara Moretz (Ratchford) on their family farm just outside of Bessemer City in March of 1942. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister, and brother-in law (Frank Ratchford).
Will attended Gaston Technical Institute via scholarship where he obtained an Associate's degree in Engineering. He went on to use the skills and education he had acquired as an employee with Bell Labs. Will then joined the United States Army and served as a Sergeant deployed abroad in Germany. After leaving military service, Will was employed by IBM. Even though he was working full time and raising a family, Will continued livestock farming and agriculture on the family farm. He left IBM after thirty years with many lifelong friendships. In his retirement, Will continued to use his technical skills to repair and build computers for many friends, neighbors, and nonprofits at little to no cost.
Will is remembered for his abundant kindness, generosity, and humble demeanor. He was a lifelong learner who loved to research and tackle any challenge put before him. He was always willing to volunteer and lend a helping hand to anyone. Will protected and mentored both his immediate family and his extended family. He will always be known first and foremost as a family man who cared deeply for those around him.
Will is survived by Roy Ann (Goins) Moretz, his wife of 52 years, as well as his children Roy (Tamy Huffaker), Paul, and Leatha (Mike Camenga) Moretz; granddaughter Glenna Huffaker; great grandchildren Alexander and Reva Huffaker; and a large extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, church family, and friends.
The family has postponed memorial services until further notice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to local food banks.
