William "Yonkey" Jettie Simmons

William "Yonkey" Jettie Simmons, 61, of Gastonia, NC, passed away, Monday, March 2, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.
He was born October 12, 1958 in Horry Co, SC, son of the late Benjamin Barrett Simmons and Mary Cox Simmons.
Yonkey was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He was a tough man and loved to fish and collect eagles. He was very creative and artistic; he loved to build and create things with his hands.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Owensby; loving nephews, Michael Moss and Monty Johnson; and grandmother-in-law, Delia Weathers.
Yonkey is survived by his loving wife, Janice McSwain Simmons; daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Simmons; mother-in-law, Carolyn Hager; sisters, Donna Shook who was like a mother, Brenda Brown, Wanda Johnson and Cynthia Braswell and husband James who was loved like a brother; and brother, Benjamin Simmons.
A memorial service officiated by Rev's. Mike Criswell and Richard Cole will be held 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Family to have a reception after the service at Love Memorial Baptist Church - 311 E Walnut Ave, Gastonia, NC 28054.
