William Carl Hovis, 82, of Bessemer City, passed away on September 11, 2018, at his home.
He was born November 14, 1935, in Gaston County, son of the late Crown Hovis and Lula Palmer Hovis.
Mr. Hovis was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He was a US Air Force Veteran. William was a member of the Blind Veterans Association, the Kings Mountain Life Enrichment Center and the Bessemer City Meal Site. He retired from Wix Filters after 37 years of service.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday, September 14, 2018, at New Life Baptist Church, 614 S. 11th Street Bessemer City, officiated by Dr. Gene Ware and Pastor Thomas Hovis.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the church.
Burial will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by The Gaston County Honor Guard.
Mr. Hovis is survived by son, Pastor Thomas Hovis and wife Samantha; daughters, Deborah Hovis Moore and husband Carl, Mary Hovis Ledford; grandchildren, Casey Franklin, Zachary Brown, John Zimmerschied, Joshua Moore, Christopher Moore, Katie Moore, Shannon Hovis, Beverly Hovis; seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra McCraw Hovis; brothers, Rogers Hovis and wife Naomi.
