William Hill

March 31, 1948 — September 8, 2017

  William Henry "Butch" Hill, 69, of Gastonia, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Caromont Regional Medical Center from complications during heart surgery.  

  He was born, March 31, 1948, a native of Gaston County, the son of the late, William Henry Hill Sr. and Margaret Cunningham Hill.  

  Butch was a Sergeant Tech 5 in the US Army.  

  He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and served two tours in Vietnam.  

  He was awarded 2 purple hearts, a silver star, and a bronze star.  

  Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Deborah Self Hill; sons, Eddie Michalak (Patsy) of Lexington, Jeffery Hill; stepsons, Buddy Clark, Jeremy Clark (Mary Anne); sisters, Judie Saine (Carl Jr.), Elaine Howe (O'Neal), Bonnie Jenkins, Kathy Hill (Brenda Smith); 11 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

  Butch loved his family very much.  

  A funeral service, officiated by Pastor David MacEachern, will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church, Gastonia.  

  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.  

  Interment will be in Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.  

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 2200 Auten Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054 (note Crisis Ministries on memo line) or Union Grove Baptist Church, 2295 Union Grove Rd., Lexington, NC 27295 (note Helping Hands on memo line).  

  Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, Gastonia.
