William (Bill) George Hill, 96, of Gastonia passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Hospital, Gastonia.
He was born February 21, 1925 in Cabarrus County NC, son of the late George Washington Hill and Pearl Hammond Hill of York, SC.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Agnes White, his sisters Glennie Brackett and Jennie Tresider and one brother, Marion David Hill.
Bill was a veteran of WWII serving as Navy Seaman 1 st class participating in the Pacific Theatre and the Aleutian Islands aboard the destroyer USS Kimberly (DD521) which escorted the USS Missouri back to the United States after the signing of the Peace Treaty with Japan. Following his Naval service, Bill worked in the mills in Gastonia and then did textile machining, retiring from Carolina Steele Roller Co. in Dallas, NC.
Bill is survived by his brother, Thomas B. Hill (Sarah) of Clover SC; his son, Dr. Jack W. Hill (Cindy), his daughter, Judi H. Crook (Terry); Grandchildren, Dennis Cole, Duane Cole (Nikki), Matthew Hill (Terri) and Lindsay Davis (Sean); Great-Grandchildren, Jacob Cole (Wendy), Anna Cole, Ayla Cole, Liam Cole, Finley Davis and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd, Gastonia, NC from 10-11:00 on Wednesday, September 1, 2021,with service beginning at 11:00 officiated by Rev. Roger Overton. Following the service, entombment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Dr., Gastonia, NC with full military rites, weather permitting. Please wear a mask.
