William Thomas Guffey Jr., born on September 12, 1961, in North Carolina, passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of 64. He made his home in Gastonia, NC, where he lived a life filled with hard work and steadfast dedication to his community as a garbage collector for the City of Gastonia.
William is remembered for his genuine kindness, quick wit, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. He was a member of God Can Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He watched wrestling and dirt track racing. He spent a lot of his time treasure hunting. He was a die-hard Pepsi drinker. He found joy in the simple things and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Wanda Guffey; sons, Jamie Morton (Crystal), Wesley Morton; daughters, Lawanda Funderburke (Jody), Jeanie Guffey; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
William is preceded in death by his parents, William & Jeanie Guffy Sr,; brothers, Otis Groves, Joey Guffey; sisters, Tammie Wilson, Debby Perkins; grandchildren, Angel Funderburke and Baby Funderburke.
A memorial service officiated by Reverend Randy Richardson will be held in honor of William on Monday, February 2, 2026, 6:00 PM, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia, where friends and family are invited to come together, share stories, and celebrate his life. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
William's journey may have ended, but his memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Bill; you will be missed.
