William "Bill" Foster was brought up in Charlotte, NC in a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. By the time he was 17, he was anxious to join the Navy. There, he completed his high school education. He served on a carrier and a destroyer and was proud to do so. After the service, he worked as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker for many years. An injury sidelined that career but he learned to be a gourmet chef. His curiosity, experimentation, and tenacity contributed to that career success.
Golf was a favorite pastime. He made and annoyed many friends on a golf course through the years. His acquaintances were infinite, and his friends many. There were no strangers in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karyl McRainey Foster; his daughter, Christina Haywood and husband Patrick, and their two children Lyla and Levi; and his son Aaron Foster and wife Shauna, and their four children Maddison, Beau, Dane and Veda. The family extends a special acknowledgement to his other two girls Jessica Brown and Danielle Foster and their families; as well as Anita and Vic Hart for co-parenting. In addition, he is survived by his father William "Bart" Foster and wife Sylvia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Montgomery Elliott and her husband LeRoy. Plus, his grandparents Perry and Lottie Montgomery.
