William "Bill" Dean Turner, 78, of Mt. Holly, NC, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.
He was born February 13, 1944, in Gaston Co, NC, son of the late Joseph Earl and Alva Petty Turner.
After a 3-year battle with ALS; Bill went to be home with the Lord, Boogie and his twin brother, Jack. He was surrounded by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia; daughters, Deanna, and Jennifer; and son-in-law, Andy. He left this world with a smile on his face and the love of his family.
Bill had a sweet, gentle nature and found joy in whatever situation he found himself in. He never lost his sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed life to the fullest.
He loved with no expectations and was selfless. He always thought of everyone before himself. He was quick to share whatever he had. He always saw the good in people and was willing to lend a helping hand.
Bill never met a stranger. He was interested in people and their life. He delighted in kids. Pawpaw Bill was a father figure to many. He loved and was loved by his grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and all of Boogie's friends.
He retired from Duke Energy after 30 years. Bill was a hard worker and great provider. He always gave 100% to anything he chose to do. He worked hard and played hard.
Bill loved to travel, especially the wild west, he loved them cowboys.
He was an avid bingo player and played in many tournaments. He loved playing in Cherokee, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach. After bingo, he loved him some food! He loved perch from Captain Steve's, ribs from Hillbillies, hamburger steak from Logan's Roadhouse, always a country meal from Cracker Barrel, but most of all, he loved momma's cooking.
Bill was a lifelong weightlifter. Three times a week he was at the YMCA, often waiting on them to open the doors. He was a wonderful husband who always told his wife how beautiful she was. Bill never went a day without telling her he loved her, no matter how fluffy she got, always asked her to dance.
Bill was a great dad to his daughters, loving them unconditionally. A big push over who melted at the signs of their tears. His grandchildren knew if mawmaw said no, ask pawpaw.
Bill will be missed by his loving family and friends. The family would like to thank Debra Johnson for all of her faithful prayers, many hours of mowing the lawn and helping to pick him up when he would fall. We would like to thank John Leatherwood for the trips to Lowes, installing railing, maintaining his wheelchairs and trips to the doctor and hospital. We would like to thank Sherry for being a faithful visitor and prayer warrior. To all Boogie's friends who took the time to visit and chat with Bill, this trilled his so much. Thank you, Mona, for the picture of our family, we will treasure it always. Thank you, Andy Freden, for making it possible for Bill to travel and play bingo. We thank God for your ability to understand and carry-on conversations with him. He cherished those times. He loved watching cowboy and sci-fi movies with you. A big thank you to his doctors, the ALS Foundation, and Caromont Hospital nurses on the fourth floor for their gentleness and patience. God bless you all.
Bill, we will always love and miss you, but we know you, Boogie and Jack are all together enjoying the porch swing with the best view ever!
