William "Don" Capps

William 'Don" Capps, 82, of Stanley, passed away January 4, 2013 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born March 12, 1930 in Gaston County son of the late Marvin L. Capps and Ila Holland Capps. Mr. Capps was a member of Sunset Lane Baptist Church, Bessemer City where he loved to sing in the choir. Don loved to bowl and was on the Golden Seniors bowling team. He served in the US Army. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia officiated by Rev. Dick Hannah The family will receive friends 2:00 - 3:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard. Mr.Capps is survived by : daughter and son in-law, Jayne and Gene Ratchford Jr.; grandchildren, Heather Ratchford, William Ratchford and wife Julie; great grandson, Ethan Ratchford. He is preceded in death by: his wife, Jewel Slaton Capps; brothers, R.B. and Roy Capps, Marvin Capps Jr; sisters, Thelma Stewart, Maybelle Bollinger, Irene Waldrop, Vida Lynn.
