William Joseph Brest, Jr.

William Joseph Brest, Jr., 84, a native of Gaston Co, NC, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, NC.

He was born November 4, 1937, son of the late William J. Brest, Sr., and Lorena Rhyne Brest.

William retired from the United States Air Force, during which he served during the Vietnam War. He also retired from Hoechst Celanese and drove a school bus for Gaston Co. Schools. William was a member and Sunday school teacher at Linden ARP Church. He also was a former director of the Jolly Seniors at Victory Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Norman Phillips.

William is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joy Brest; sons, Gordon Albert Brest (Terri), and William Thomas Brest (Sandy); daughters, Cynthia Jane Brest Burgess (Darrell), and Debra Ann Brest Connor (James); sisters, Elizabeth Ann Brest Phillips, Brenda Farrell Brest Helms (Bob), and Laura Francis Brest Lever (Mark); grandchildren, Jessika Burgess, Amy Brest, Christopher Brest, Kathryn Brest, Joseph Cape, Tony Cape, Benjamin Brest, William Brest, II, Corey Brest, Elliott Brest, Pedie Connor, Tammy Connor, and Brittany Trakas; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Doris Jensen.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Mike Lineberger, and Reverends Norris Lamb and Sandy Bozeman, will be held 2pm on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Linden ARP Church - 205 S Myrtle School Rd, Gastonia, NC 28052.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be private.
