William "Earl" Black, 71, of Gastonia, passed away August 12, 2018 at his residence.
He was born July 11, 1947 the son of the late William Lee Black and Helen Johnson Black.
Earl was a Vietnam veteran of The United States Air Force retired E8 SMSGT and Air National Guard 145 Airlift Charlotte, NC.
He is survived by his loving companion, Sherry King; son, Doug Black and wife Laura of Gastonia; daughters, Sharon Pearson and husband Mike of Gastonia and Kelly Black Coss Y Leon of Charlotte; brothers, Steve Black and wife Helen of Gastonia, Mike Black and wife, Carolyn of Cherryville, Donald Black and wife, Leah of Gastonia; sister, Patricia Grindle and husband Rodney of Garner, NC; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Ray and Patty Blanton, Sherrell Blanton and Carolyn Johnston; and grandchildren, Wesley, Brandon, Jordan, Jayden, Hunter, Madison, Kirsten, Will and Matt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Blanton Black.
The family will receive friends 5 – 6 pm Friday, August 17th at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.
A funeral service will be held 6 pm following the visitation at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held 12 noon on Saturday at The Blanton Family Cemetery in Nichols, SC.
