It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William David Anthony, a beloved father, husband, paw paw, and friend, who peacefully left us on December 12, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 21, 1942, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Bill spent his life in Bessemer City, where he became a cherished figure in the community.
Bill was a dedicated machinist who worked tirelessly in the machine shop. His craftsmanship reflected his meticulous nature and attention to detail, but it was his character that truly stood out. Known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor, Bill could light up any room with a well-timed joke or a funny story. He had a passion for fishing, often spending weekends by the water, rods in hand, sharing laughter and stories with family and friends.
Additionally, Bill enjoyed staying active and frequently hit the gym, inspiring those around him with his dedication and commitment to fitness. He also shared great adventures with his brother-in-law on hiking trips, where they bonded over the beauty of nature and life's simple pleasures.
A true racing enthusiast, Bill was an avid fan of Richard Petty and the NASCAR circuit. His love for the sport was only rivaled by his love for his family. Bill cherished every moment with his beloved spouse, Elaine; daughter, Patty Anthony; granddaughter, Raycia Nesbitt (Kinston); sisters, Nancy Carter (Butch) and Shirley Green; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The bond he shared with them was unbreakable, built on love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Obed and Pearl Anthony; siblings, Roger Anthony, Kenneth Anthony, Ronnie Anthony, Eugene Anthony, Patsy Kale, Freida Capps, and Barbara Anthony.
To honor Bill's life and legacy, a memorial service will be held at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate the wonderful man he was and to share stories that will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
