Wendie Patrice Smith, 66, of Cherryville, North Carolina, passed away on May 15, 2026, at her residence. Born on March 27, 1960, in Brockport, but raised in Greece, NY, she was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend whose spirited personality brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Wendie dedicated her professional life to the field of Accounts Receivable at Hitachi. She was well respected by her boss Vicki and her peers. She pursued her education, earning college credit that reflected her commitment to bettering herself and supporting her family. Throughout her life, Wendie put her family and friends first, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A devoted mother, Wendie found immeasurable joy in her two daughters, Ashley Merrill and Dana Smith. Also left to cherish her memories are her grandchildren, LeiLanni DeLano, Mason Merrill, and Bobby "Riley" Perkins; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, bonus children, and friends. Her world revolved around her grandchildren, whose laughter and presence brought her immense happiness.
Wendie was preceded in death by husband, Albert Smith Jr; parents, Arthur and Juanita Johnson; father in law and mother in law, Albert Smith Sr and Patricia Smith; son in law, Dan Merrill; fur baby, Hercules.
Wendie was also a loving partner who held an enduring love for her late husband, taking great pride in his service to the Navy. Wendie's connection with her beloved dogs, Peanut Butter and Jelly, reflected her caring nature and her deep affection for animals. Known for her loyalty, she was a steadfast friend who spoke her mind and approached life with a spirited personality that inspired those around her.
A memorial service to celebrate Wendie's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Wendie's name, reflecting her love for her furry companions.
