Weldon Tanner, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on June 30, 1940, in North Carolina, Weldon spent his life making memories with family and friends in his hometown of Gastonia.
A skilled machinist in the tool and die manufacturing industry, he was known for his hardworking nature and meticulous craftsmanship. Outside of work, Weldon found joy in playing golf, bowling, and following NASCAR. He would often gather with his loved ones for cookouts, where laughter echoed and stories were shared-his favorite moments were always spent surrounded by family.
Weldon proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, embodying the values of dedication and service throughout his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Willette Tanner; son, Tim Tanner (Penny); daughter, Stephanie Davis (Daylan); grandchildren, Tim Tanner, Jr. (Shirl), Wayne Tanner, Jennifer Conover (Joey), Brianna McDonald (Kenny) and DJ Davis (Alyssa); great grandchildren, Bentley, Liam, Kace, Kameron and Emry; who will continue to cherish the many wonderful years they spent together.
A Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service with Pastor Will Davis, Officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Westview Gardens. We will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and find comfort in one another's company as we bid farewell to a truly special man.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Weldon Tanner will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, William and Radie Tanner; siblings, Ralph Tanner, Joyce Ann Tanner, Mildred Shirley Taylor and Deloris Nations.
