Obituary

Wanda Adair Smith Brackett, aged 74, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on July 25, 2026. Born on July 19, 1952, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Wanda enriched the lives of those around her with her unwavering love and generosity.

In her vibrant years, Wanda dedicated herself to her work as a hairdresser, where she nurtured deep connections with her customers, who were always dear to her heart. Each appointment was not just a transaction but a treasured moment of companionship. Her salon became not only a place of beauty but a sanctuary of friendship, laughter, and understanding.

Wanda found immense joy in spending time with her family, particularly in the delightful company of her grandchildren, Gunnar and Gabby. She reveled in watching their ball games, celebrating their victories, and offering her unwavering support. Her daughter, Amy Shedd, and son-in-law, Mark Shedd, along with her devoted spouse, Gary Brackett, were constant sources of pride and joy in her life. Wanda's love extended to her mother, Mary Francis Smith, her brother Eddie Smith, and his family, including sisters-in-law, Lisa Smith, Pat Duncan, Joyce Picklesimer, and brother-in-law Wayne Jr. Brackett, as well as her sister-in-law Jan Brackett, and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close.

Wanda was not only a nurturer of hair but also of gardens, dedicating her time to cultivating beauty in her surroundings. Her love for the beach provided her solace, where she cherished tranquil moments and the sound of waves, which harmonized perfectly with the laughter and conversations of her family.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate staff at White Oak Manor and Testa Family Hospice House for their exceptional care, which brought comfort during her final days.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Wanda's life on July 30, 2026. A visitation will be held at 11:00 am -1:00 pm at the First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City 510 East Alabama Avenue, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm.
