Walter Eugene Sharpe Jr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Eugene "Gene" Sharpe Jr., who left us on April 5, 2026, at the age of 65. Gene was born on February 26, 1961, in Gaston County, North Carolina, and he spent his life in the welcoming town of Kings Mountain.

Gene was not just a good manager in the retail industry; he was a true outdoorsman at heart. He loved nothing more than casting a line and enjoying the tranquility of fishing, or setting up camp to create lasting memories with his family. An incredibly talented sketch artist, he brought joy and beauty into the lives of those around him through his artwork.

A man with a great sense of humor, Gene had that special gift of making people laugh. He was a devoted dog dad to his beloved Shadow, and his love for family was immeasurable. He often found time to catch his favorite wrestling matches, with a special fondness for the legendary Ric Flair.

Left to cherish Gene's memories are his baby sister, Laura Sharpe; nieces and nephews, Lena Hyman, Shelby Huffman, Jeffrey Davidson, John Sharpe, Marty Whitaker, Brandi Nivens, Tyler Sharpe, and Lewis Sharpe; great nieces and nephews, AJ, Annie, Sophia, Vonna, Jamie, Hallie, Justin, Sasha, and Payton; great great niece and nephew, Lily Bug and "Tonka" Dean.

Gene was preceded in death by parents, Walter Sr and Hazel Sharpe; brother, Clay Sharpe; sister, Rebecca Whitaker.

Visitation will take place at Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Gene's life and share their fondest memories.

Gene's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his laughter, creativity, and unwavering love for those around him.
