Virginia Lee Burgess Hobbs

Virginia Lee Burgess Hobbs, 77, passed away October 8, 2016 at her residence.

She was born March 1, 1939 in Fayette County, WV, the daughter of the late Herbert Thomas Burgess and Opal Julia Webb Burgess.

Virginia was a member of Iron Station Missionary.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She enjoyed cooking, watching Nascar and football.  She was the #1 fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr.  She also enjoyed taking cruises.

The family would like to thank CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Carolinas Medical Center – Main and Gaston Hospice for their compassionate care.  Also all the clergy and everyone who prayed for Virginia and her family.  Also a special thanks to Rev. Jerry Millwood for his thoughts, prayers and time spent with Virginia and family.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons Robert Eugene, Ronald Perry and fiance' Stacey Simmons, Ray Edward and fiancé Sarah Murdoch; daughters Mary Vargo and husband Steve, Patricia Lazenby and fiancé Robert Cope, Barbara Rhyne and husband Larry, Linda Turner, Anita Turner and husband Roy, Dorothy Jackson and husband Ronnie; twenty-five grandchildren; 36 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and brothers Dale, Dennis and Roger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert; son Roger Wayne; grandson Robbie Gibson; brothers Cleve, Clyde and Oliver and sisters Nancy and Mary.

A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Millwood, will be held 1:30 pm Tuesday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
