Virgil Mark Crump

October 17, 1959 — April 17, 2026

Virgil "Mark"' Crump, 66, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026 at Belmont Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born on October 17, 1959 in Stanly County, NC, to Nancy Meachum Crump and the late Virgil Chase Crump.

Mark's journey in life was long and hard but in the last 15 years he found the Lord again. He studied his Bible, he prayed a lot, he served and witnessed to the homeless and at church. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. I am so thankful he passed into the arms of Jesus peacefully. He enjoyed playing guitar and loved woodworking, especially making things for his family. He was a carpenter in his younger days, framing houses. He always talked about building and living on a houseboat. He was a great cook, especially homemade biscuits.

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his sisters, Martha Honeycutt, Jane Earnhardt (Gene), Terri DeFriess (Jim); two sons; girlfriend, Debra Helms; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Sunday, April 19, 2026, 2:00 PM, at Sunset Road Baptist Church, 2317 Sunset Road Charlotte, NC 28216. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Sunset Road Baptist Church.
