Violet Groves Newton

Violet Groves Newton, 91, of Gastonia, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 31, 2020, in Gastonia.

She was born April 14, 1929, in Gaston County, daughter of the late Charlie P. Groves and Stacie W. Groves.

Violet, native of Gaston County, was a member of York Wood Church of God, Gastonia. She loved the Lord, her family, and her church. Her favorite saying was "Love You More".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Newton; daughter, Sharon Hill; brothers, Howard Groves, Cliff Groves, John Groves; and sisters, Madge Groves, Blanch Phillips, Hattie Groves, Lillie Pearl Groves.

Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Geneva Welch and husband, Gene Welch; grandchildren, Joey Newton and wife, Julie, Robert Henderson and wife, Dawn, Leslie Jackson and husband, Travis and Ashely Henderson; great grandchildren, Austin Henderson, Nickles Henderson, Ryleigh Newton, Camron Brewer, Kierra Mullinax; and great-great grandchildren, Mateo Brewer, William Brewer, and Liviana Henderson.

A funeral service will be held 11 am on Wednesday, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia. Pastor Kevin Jones will be officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gastonia.
