Vernie Hoffman Hughes

Vernie Hoffman Hughes, 82, of Gastonia, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Carolina's Medical Center, Charlotte.

She was born February 7, 1935, in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late George Hoffman and Mary Weaver Hoffman.

Vernie was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Sonshine Club. She loved to help others and never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hughes; and sisters, Pauline Johnson, Sarah Ryne, Annie Dye, Frances Hoffman; and grandchild, Tina Crawford.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Robert Lancaster and wife, Misty; brother, Mack Hoffman; grandchildren, David Lancaster and wife, Jennifer, Tim Lancaster and wife, Tabatha; great grandchildren, Taylor Lancaster, Alexis Lancaster, Brittion Crawford, and Caleb Crawford; and nephew, Gene Johnson.

A funeral service, officiated by the Revs. David MacEachern and Gene Johnson, Jr., and David Lancaster, will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, at Grace Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.
