It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tristan "Axel" Nicole Ruiz, a bright and creative soul who left this world too soon at the age of 16. Born on April 21, 2010, in Gastonia, NC, Tristan was the beloved daughter of father, Russel Ruiz, mother, Jennifer Ruiz, stepmother, Lauren Kelly, and stepfather, Robert Carroll. She had a spark for life that shone through her passion for art, music, and all things creative.

Tristan was an extraordinary young woman with a love for Taco Bell and "homemade" Sake Express, who often sang at the top of her lungs, bringing joy to everyone around her. A proud member of the band and color guard at Ashbrook High School, she poured her heart into everything she did. An artist at heart, Tristan expressed herself through drawing, crafting costumes, making bracelets, pins, and anything that allowed her creativity to flourish-including building with Legos, working with clay and took pride in building things quickly. She loved Drako from Harry Potter and enjoyed shopping at Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

Her gentle nature and ability to connect with animals made her a true "pet whisperer," and her kindness shone through in every interaction. Tristan was patient, understanding, and always willing to lend a helping hand. She had dreams of one day becoming a chemist.

Tristan is survived by her father, Russel Ruiz; mother, Jennifer Ruiz; stepfather, Robert Carroll; stepmother, Lauren Kelly; sisters, Jayden Madison Ruiz and Tyzera Anndreya Simon; step-brother, Pollux Clifton Kelly; grandmother, Nancy Bedard (Kimberley Miller); aunt Nicole Armstrong (Brett);niece, Koryn Camile Simon; nephew, Zyaire Jase Simon; cousins, Jaquez Gwinn (Cheyenne), Nicholas Gwinn, Kera Hurt (Scott), Amy Yeager, Stacey Singleton, Steven Yeager Jr.; great grandmother, Leona Yeager; great aunt and uncle, Jim Yeager (June) and Steven Yeager Sr. (Kathy).

She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Ricky Ruiz, Benjamin Brady Simon III, and James John Yeager.

The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate Tristan's life in the coming days. Details will be shared soon, so friends and loved ones can join in honoring this remarkable young person who touched so many lives.
