Toni Summitt Long

Toni Summitt Long, 71, of Dallas, went to be with the Lord, September 13, 2015 at her residence. She was born July 25, 1944, a native of Gaston County, the daughter of the late Rev. Lawson Gaither Summitt and Betty Usery Summitt. Toni was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Gastonia where she was a singer and pianist. She was a Sunday school teacher at several churches for over 44 years. Toni was a graduate of Piedmont Bible Institute and an executive director of the Dallas High Shoals Christian Ministry since 2002 and was a member for over 32 years. She was also a former executive director of the Bessemer City Crisis Center. She had a compassion for the community and has been a big help to a multitude of people. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Grady Long, Jr. of the home; brothers, Randy Summitt and wife Betty of Gastonia, Charles Summitt and wife Rachel; children, Rhonda and Ken Hudson of Stanley, Julie and Thomas Pettus of Lincolnton; grandkids, Jessica and Greg Owensby of Cherryville, Sara and Brian Burgess of Stanley, Leah Hedgpath of Dallas, Leslie Ledford of Dallas, by marriage, Kenna Jones and Brandi Underwood; great-grandchildren, Jessalyn, Gracie, Anna, Lawson, Emma; by marriage Zach and Bailey. The Long family would like to thank Gaston Hospice and Drs. Digby and Jarrett for their care. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Revs. Jerry Millwood and Sherman Branch and Pastor Gary Weant. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers to carry her to her final resting place in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery include: Mike Dowdle, Tommy Pannell, Coyt Patterson, Jim Marra, Roy Barker and Tommy Millwood. Memorials may be made to Dallas Christian Ministry, PO Box 832, Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
