Tommy Jay Stephens

May 11, 1958 — September 16, 2024

Tommy Jay Stephens, age 66, passed away on September 16, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Columbus Co, NC, on May 11, 1958, to his father, Jay Stephens and to his  precious mother, Alice (Ruth) Stephens.

Tommy was preceded in death by both of his parents; and father in law, Bobby Leroy Heffner; and mother in law, Mary Frances Heffner.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 43 years, Jackie Gibson Stephens; brother, Johnny Stephens (Barbara Berry); sisters, Susie Stroupe (Tony), and Lisa Bold (Kent); sister in law, Mary Kay Gibson; along with several nieces and nephews. Tommy will be missed.

Tommy was a great man who could build or rebuild anything. He was fun loving, he loved to joke, laugh and be adventurous. He loved walking in nature, and loved old trucks, cars, and motorcycles. He loved to swim and play in the pool with his nieces and nephews.

Tommy loved his sweetheart, Jackie. They loved one another even in the hardest of times. They laughed, danced, traveled, kept an immaculate home and landscaped yard, they sang and acted silly just because they could. Tommy loved his fur baby, Trixie. He loved to take Trixie to the park or walking by the waterfalls in the mountains. He kept up with current news and liked to dabble in stocks. He was retired from Stabilus in Gastonia. Tommy attended Clover Liberty Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed talking, making friends and being in fellowship. Tommy struggled later in life, yet was not ashamed to keep coming for prayer for those struggles. Tommy knew where his help would come from, the Lord, Jesus Christ.

A funeral service to honor Tommy's life will be held 3:00pm, Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Clover Liberty Pentecostal Church - 1045 N. Main St., Clover, SC 29710. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, NC.
