Tommy Gene Ikerd

Tommy Gene Ikerd, 80, went home to be with the Lord where he was reunited with his loving wife. He was surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Robin Johnson House Dallas, NC. He was born October 4, 1935 in Catawba County, North Carolina, to the late Mr. Zeb Haven Ikerd and Mrs. Irene Ramseur Ikerd Queen. After a long career as a truck driver, he retired from Carolina Freight Carriers. Mr. Ikerd proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he completed several deployments making the rank of Corporal and receiving several awards including the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal while serving on the USS Coral Seas. After an honorable discharge from the USMC, Mr. Ikerd was employed by DeHart Motor Lines. While working one day, he met the former Ms. Loretta Williams, who became the love of his life. They were married April 2, 1958. He was a faithful member of Goshen Freewill Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Ikerd was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Renee' Moses and husband Wayne, Sandy Criswell and husband David; Grandchildren, Dr. Adam Criswell, Lauren Roberts and husband Tyler, Alyssa Ikerd, great-grandchild, Jesse Roberts; brothers, Steve Ikerd and wife Betty, Lynn Ikerd; sisters, Shirley Keller, Robin Watts and husband Terry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Loretta; sisters, Barbara Rodgers and Judy Barfield. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 31 at Goshen Freewill Baptist Church, Mount Holly at 1:00 pm. Officiating are Rev. Mark Ikerd and Dr. Clayton Burch. Entombment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery of Belmont, with military honors presented by the U.S. Marine Corp. The family of Mr. Ikerd will receive friends Friday, October 30 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service from 6 pm to 8 pm. In Lieu of flowers memorial made to Robin Johnson House 5005 Shepard's Way Drive, Dallas, North Carolina 28034. The family is being cared for by the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia is serving the Ikerd Family.
