Rev. Thurman Alfred "Al" Woolbright, 94, entered eternal life on April 5th, 2016. He was born on January 9th, 1922, in Abbeville, SC, to the late Elijah Prophet and Edith Mae (Brown) Woolbright. He served with the United States Navy from 1942-1944, World War II. He went on to obtain a bachelor degree from Furman University in 1949; a bachelor degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1952; and a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975. He spent decades devoted to preaching The Gospel, and using his hands to serve on home and foreign missions. He served in numerous churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Louisiana. He volunteered many years at the Billy Graham Library along with many other acts of service. Along with his parents, Rev. Woolbright is predeceased by his wife, Lila Laura Mae Sutherland Woolbright; sister, Reny McCurry. He is survived by his sons, Wallace Woolbright of Morganton, NC and Michael Woolbright and wife Cynthia Walls Woolbright of Mount Holly, NC; grandchildren, Tammy Parker and husband, Mark of Dallas, GA., Byrony Elmore and husband, Patrick of Denver, NC and Farran Woolbright and fiancé, Cameron Rhyne of Mount Holly, NC; five great - grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy McClellan and husband, Jim of Jacksonville, FL., Betty Kerby and husband, Rev. Robert Kerby of Stanley, NC; brother-in-law, Jack McCurry of Abbeville, SC. The family will receive friends 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. at the church and celebrate the life of Reverend Thurman Alfred Woolbright 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 1601 Toddville Rd. Charlotte, NC with Dr. Bob Winecoff and The Rev. Gene Boatwright officiating. The Gaston County Honor Guard will salute Rev. Woolbright and he will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region to We Honor Veterans Program 7845 Little Ave., Charlotte, NC, 28226, or New Orleans Theological Seminary Elijah Prophet and Edith Mae Woolbright Scholarship Fund at New Orleans Theological Seminary.
