Thomas William Moon

Thomas William Moon was born on March 22, 1948, to Thomas Evans Moon and Alice Margaret Sophie Grefe and passed away on July 22, 2022, in North Carolina. He grew up in a loving home with his parents and his sister -Alma Moon- in New York near an air base that he would speak of often. He later moved to North Carolina to attend school to become a psychologist and -later - raise his two daughters Shannon and Andrea Moon with his wife Gloria Moon.

Before starting his family, he became an explorer of life, finding joy in family and friends, loved learning and playing, and recognizing goodness and God in all he met. Tom loved the great outdoors from childhood and participated in hunting, fishing, swimming, skating, skiing, and running. He earned a black belt in karate and played college soccer. He also enjoyed tennis and basketball. You could find him coaching and playing many of his favorite sports.

He loved to tell stories and charmed family and friends with them. He taught life skills to patients through storytelling when working as a psychologist. He was an outstanding chess player, avid bridge enthusiast, and an authority on all things WWII. Tom loved people and made friends at work, play, and church. You could find him sharing his above mentioned interests as "trivia" and would jokingly say "you get the points" if someone he quizzed knew the answer to his obscure questions. He was genuine and easy to relate to, never meeting a stranger. His kindness was often given in secret to those who found themselves in desperate financial and social situations. Sharing friendship, their interests, while lifting them up with respect for their humanity.

Thomas Moon is survived by his wife, daughters, sister, and their families including a grandson whom he thought the world of.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street North, Concord, North Carolina with streaming services available to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you give to a charity of choice if you would like to honor Tom.
