Thelma Irene Auten

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thelma Irene Auten, who left us peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on September 27, 1926, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Thelma lived a vibrant life full of love and laughter.

A dedicated lab technician in the textile industry, Thelma was known for her strong work ethic and commitment to her craft. She was deeply rooted in her community, where she spent most of her life, and cherished her time with family and friends. She was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gastonia.

Thelma is survived by her beloved son, Don Auten (Mary Alice), who will always carry her memory in his heart; grandson, John Auten (Candace); great-granddaughter, Gabriella Auten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Auten; parents, Charles and Effie Reynolds; brother, George Reynolds; sisters, Evelyn Wilkinson and Louise Cloninger.

A graveside service, officiated by Reverend Joe Lankford, will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, 12:00 Noon at Gaston Memorial Park, located at 1200 S New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054. Friends and family are invited to join together to celebrate Thelma's remarkable life and bid her a fond farewell.

We will forever remember Thelma's kindness, her warm smile, and the countless memories she gifted to those around her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
