In Loving Memory of Terry Charles Philpott

December 8, 1936 - January 23, 2021

Terry Charles Philpott was born on December 8, 1936 to Charles and Ruth Philpott in Cleveland Ohio. Terry was the oldest of six children.   He left high school and went directly into the air force around the age of seventeen becoming a radar operator and studying engineering at Kent State.  After leaving the military he moved back home to Cleveland Ohio.  Terry had a curious mind and loved to read and learn how things worked. He was always designing and building things for him and his siblings to experiment with.  Terry went to work for Chrysler Corporation while back in Cleveland after the air force, even participating in the designing of one of their cars.

Terry's curiosity for knowledge and love of reading led him to Jehovah.   When Jehovah's Witnesses came to his mother's house he listened.  Even when his grandfather told the Witnesses not to come back, he told them they could come back any time they wanted to.  He liked what he heard and was learning from the Bible and felt he had found the truth.   Terry got baptized on December 10, 1961 at the age of 25 and served Jehovah faithfully from that point on.  He spoke about the Kingdom and his love for Jehovah as long as he was able to speak, he truly loved the ministry.  In fact, a few of us affectionately named him brother field service!

On August 3, 1963 Terry married Helen Dew and a few years after that they started a family.  Together with his wife Helen he volunteered much of his time teaching the Bible to others, this was the focus of his life.  Terry along with Helen raised their two children to love and serve Jehovah.  He also witnessed to his mother and other family members with some eventually also serving Jehovah along with him.

Terry was a very giving and kind person.  He would give you the shirt off his back and more.  For many years he worked on Kingdom Hall quick builds as they were once called and would volunteer wherever he could help out.  When friends and family talk about Terry they remember him as very talkative and a lover of the Bible.  He would witness to anyone with a listening ear.  He loved doing anything that advanced the Kingdom work.  Terry loved to laugh, play the piano and the guitar.  He liked fishing, traveling with his family and anything to do with mechanics and engineering.  He was always designing things and had sketches of designs lying around the house.  He was always taking things apart and putting them back together again.  In fact, his mother would tell the story of Terry taking apart her brand-new clock at age two.  In true TPott style, he put the clock back together again and it worked perfectly. If you didn't want him to take it apart you had better hide it.  Terry had many spiritual children and grandchildren who loved him dearly.  We will all miss him and look forward to seeing him soon in the Paradise to come.

Terry Charles Philpott is survived by his loving wife Helen Dew Philpott of Gastonia NC; daughter Rachel Philpott Hicks (Steven), son Joel C Philpott (Heather), granddaughter Olivia Christiania Hicks-Blandon (Saul), great granddaughter Sabela Hicks-Blandon; sisters, Janifer Philpott, Debra Lewis, and Sharon Daniels (David); brother Michael Philpott and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister Fern Elaine Houston.

"If a man dies, can he live again?  I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes.  You will call, and I will answer you.  You will long for the work of your hands." – Job 14:14,15
