Terry Gregoire, 71, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born the 8th of 10 children on a dairy farm in Minnesota, surrounded by love, family and hard work.
A devoted Christian, Terry's life was transformed while working as an aircraft mechanic and pilot in Alaska when he had a life-changing encounter with Jesus. From that moment on, his faith became the foundation of everything he did. In his early days as a young believer in Alaska (and then later in Oklahoma), Terry led worship and played guitar for his church and also helped plant a church in North Carolina. His heart for ministry would never diminish, as decades later he would be deeply involved in a church community where he was a faithful member, an ordained pastor and a cherished mentor.
Terry was a gifted mechanic and honest businessman. He owned and operated Darrell's Garage in Gastonia for 30 years. His shop was known for integrity and excellence, serving customers' families for generations. He was available day or night to help with car troubles or offer advice.
He had a lifelong love for motorcycles, airplanes and adventure. He enjoyed traveling across the country on his Harley and counted it a great honor to minister to bikers at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. His most cherished memories were sharing the love of Jesus in unexpected places.
It brought Terry and his wife, Faye, much joy to host friends and family in their home. He loved any opportunity to bring people together over good food, stories, and laughter. He was equally enthusiastic to talk about aviation, the global Church, or how to make a delicious recipe!
Terry was also a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Dallas, NC. He served on the Board and was a fearless fundraiser for the organization.
Family was everything to Terry. He was devoted to his wife of 24 years, and their marriage stood as a testament to love, commitment, and selflessness. He was crazy about his kids and grandkids. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them, pulling out his guitar to sing with them, and cheering them on at concerts, games and recitals. He loved seeing his big family in Minnesota, visiting the family farm and annual fishing trips with his brothers.
Terry is survived by his wife Faye; his children Terese Southern (Ryan), Leah Gregoire, Andrea Rhyne (Josh), Nick Gregoire, and James Kinsey (Tami); grandchildren Landon, Madison, Gabriel, Noble, and Evangeline, his siblings Dan, Barb, Karyl, Al, Peggy, Renee, Mari-Kae; sister-in-law Mary, countless friends, church family, and those whose lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and faith.
A celebration of Terry's life will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, November 2nd at Venture Church in Dallas, NC. Visitation is from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Venture Church ( https://daretoventure.org/give ) or The Boys and Girls Club of Dallas, NC ( https://www.bgcgreatergaston.org/dallas-club ). He was passionate about these organizations and remained active in them until his final days.
Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing he is now with his Savior, worshiping joyfully and hearing the words he longed to hear: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
