Sue Johns Cook, 93, of Gastonia, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, surrounded by her family at Caromont Regional Medical Center .
She was born on August 2, 1928, in Baxley, Georgia to the late Alvin and Inez Vaughn Johns.
Sue was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. She was a former textile employee and the face of Cook's Fishing Lake.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Cook, Sr.; daughter, Eileen Cook; grandson, Lester Cook, III; daughter in law, Mary Ann Cook; brother, Henry Johns; and sister-in-law, Linda Johns.
Surviving are sons, Lester Cook, Jr., Robert Cook and wife Judy, and Michael Cook, Sr. and wife Susan; 7 grandchildren, Joy Stewart and husband Jerold, Clayton Cook and wife Brandi, Leigh Rash and husband Josh, Crystal Smiley and husband Tyler, Mike Cook, Jr., Amanda Wheeler and husband Travis, and Lisa Capps and husband Craig; 14 great grandchildren, Lester Cook, IV, Brittney Brittain and husband John, Justin Hoffman, Madison Cook, Caylie Conner, Samantha Rash, Meredith Cook, Cade Conner, Luke Rash, Laylah Lindsay, Chandler Capps, Anslee Smiley, Chloe Cook and Zoey Cook; and great great grandchild, Lester Cook, V.
The family will receive friends the evening of Friday, October 22, 2021, at the home.
A memorial service will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Cook's Fishing Lake – 320 Cook's Lake Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056.
A graveside service , officiated by Pastor Troy Beaver, will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery – 5323 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056.
