Steven Clinton Michaels, Sr.

Steven Clinton Michaels, Sr., 72, of Gastonia, NC, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

He was born March 1, 1950, a native of Gaston Co, NC, son of the late Miles and Jean Michaels.

His Police Service:  He served over 40 years in Law Enforcement serving the Gaston County community starting in 1971. His service spanned the Gastonia, Ranlo, and Dallas City Departments. He also served on the Belmont Abbey Police Department for over 10 years after retirement. He was the true definition of service before self and loved serving as a police officer. Throughout his career he served as a Patrol Officer, TACT Team Member, CSI, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Captain, Vice Squad Captain, and Chief of Police. He was awarded the Officer of the Year in 1999.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Angela Millican and husband Chad; son, Steven Michaels Jr. and wife Terri; daughter, Jamie McElhaney and husband Jamrey; grandchildren, Maxwell Michaels and wife Jenny, Taylor Ptacek and husband Luke, Mitchell Michaels, and Jayda McElhaney; sister, Teresa Michaels; nieces, Rhonda Carr and husband Benny, and Heather Caldwell; and his special companion, his dog Carrie.

A memorial service officiated by Steven's grandson, Rev. Maxwell Michaels, will be held 2pm on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at New Hope Presbyterian Church - 4357 S New Hope Rd #8454, Gastonia, NC 28056.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Honors will be presented by the City of Gastonia Police Department.
