Stephen Mckinley Johnson

d. October 14, 2024

Stephen McKinley Johnson passed away on October 14, 2024, at the age of 72 surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with various cancers.

Stephen was from Spartanburg, South Carolina but resided in Clover, South Carolina with his niece, Telly Yelton and her husband Randy for the past 10 years. Stephen worked as a security guard for Mayflower mills in Spartanburg South Carolina for 25 years. Stephen didn't have any children, but he loved his nieces and nephew as his own.

He was born to the late Albert Johnson and Thelma Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirby Bogan; three brothers, Larry Johnson, Ricky Johnson, and Robert Johnson; and his nephew, Bobby Johnson.

Stephen is survived by his nieces, Telly Yelton and husband Randy who were his caretakers, Tabatha, Shasta, Jackie, Robin, Chyanne, Danielle, Brittany, Skylann, Courtney, Whittney, Khloee, Victoria, Miranda, Sarah, Tara; and his nephews, Randy, Tony, Anthony, Montana, Jimmy, Hunter, Parker, Kayden, Wyatt, Grayson, Walker, Jack, Kingston, Kylen, Kamdyn, Korey, Trinity, and Brad; sister-in-law, Cathy Johnson; and his best friend, Fred Schuster.

Stephen was born with Cerebral Palsy, so his niece Telly Yelton respected his wishes and had his body donated to science. He is at Elon University in Greensboro, North Carolina as a silent teacher.

We would like to give our gratitude to Carolina Caring Hospice – 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658, for taking excellent care of him and his final months.

We will have a memorial service for him as soon as science is finished with his body. Please contact his niece Telly Yelton for that information.
