Johnson City, TN - Stephen John De Unger, 46, of Johnson City, TN passed away December 26, 2013 at his home with complications of a long term illness. He was born June 13, 1967 in Washington, DC son of Therese "Terri" Moloney and the late John Philetus De Unger. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday at St. Marks Episcopal Church, officiated by Rev. Shawn Griffith. The family will receive friends from 2:00 -3:00pm Tuesday at the church. Interment will be held at Armstrong Cemetery, Gastonia. Mr. De Unger was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church. He was a graduate of Miller-Motte College in North Carolina and attended mortuary school at John A. Gupton College in Nashville,Tennessee In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step father, Steve Cody; maternal grandmother, Pegi A. Herbert; paternal grandfather, John H. Lewis; sister, Monique "Nikki" De Unger Thomas and husband Scott; niece, Lily Georgene Thomas; uncle, Paul Moloney; cousins, Patricia Moloney Starnes and husband Nathan, Terry and Dayle Davies; and many friends. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by: his maternal grandfather, Philip Moloney; paternal grandmother, Georgene De Unger Lewis; paternal grandfather, John De Unger; brothers, Patrick Gene De Unger, Jalil Philip Kachouee- Harlang. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to House of Mercy, 701 Mercy Dr., Belmont, NC 28012. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
