Miss Shirley Parker, 83, of Gastonia, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.
A Gaston County native, she was born September 23, 1938, daughter of the late Thomas Lester Brooks and Ruby Fink Brooks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian Hogue and Loretta Louise Brooks; brother, Raymond "Buck" Brooks; and grandson, Jeremiah Grigg.
She was a member of Clover First Freewill Baptist Church.
Shirley was a faithful Christian and a strong mother who loved and supported her children.
She was a determined overcomer.
Shirley was very giving and generous.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Paulette Grigg (Kalvin), Sissy Brooks (Steven), and Kevin Smith (Amy); grandchildren, Jeffery Grigg, Jennifer Woods (Edward), Lauren Finger (David), Jordan Brooks (Abigail), Mac McHenry, and Mary McHenry-Roberts; great-grandchildren, Gavin Grigg, Lucas Grigg, Tyler Grigg, Kaitlyn Woods, Riley Woods, Addison Woods, and Nikolas Towery; sister, Juanita Buchanan.
The family would like to give a special thanks to nurse Tamatha Scoggins for the care she provided to Miss Parker.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Donald Mitchelson and Rev. Eddie Carson, will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Clover First Freewill Baptist Church, 307 Valley Ave., Clover, SC.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Clover First Freewill Baptist Church Youth Fund, 307 Valley Ave., Clover, SC 29710.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
