Shirley Susan Green McQueen, age 64, of Boone, NC passed away at 2:30 am on October 6, 2017 after a long illness.
The celebration of her life will be held at 6:30 on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at Western Youth Network, 155 Wyn Way, Boone, NC This will be an informal potluck dinner to honor the memory of Shirley.
Shirley was born in Cleveland County, NC on July 12, 1953. She was married to Rex D. McQueen on January 14, 1973; they were married 44 years.
Shirley loved to cook and serve a multitude of people including college students who were away from home cooked meals. She never turned anyone away. She was a gardener, painter and, a poet and spent many enjoyable years being creative and loving people.
Shirley is survived by her husband Rex McQueen, daughter Angela Wheeler, son Rex Alex McQueen, grandchildren, Jasmine Schools, Miriam Schools, and Walt McQueen and great grandchildren, Roman Schools and Lola Schools, her brother Mike Green, sisters Diane Moon, Margo Ward, Amy Chilcote, and twin sister Sheila Cowherd and a multitude of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Frances and Oscar "Bud" Green.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Shirley McQueen's memory to 4H or the charity of your choice.
The family of Shirley McQueen wishes to thank Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation as well as Caldwell Hospice for their wonderful care of her throughout her time with them.
