Shirley Ann Burlingame

August 9, 1938 — October 25, 2024

Shirley Ann Burlingame, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on October 25, 2024, in Dallas, NC. She was born on August 9, 1938, in Ithaca, New York, and spent her life dedicated to caring for her family and spreading love and kindness to all those around her.

Early in Shirley's life she loved spending time with her dad hunting, fishing, and playing cards. In 1975, she even went on a special hunting trip with her parents to Africa.

Shirley was a multifaceted woman who found joy in a variety of roles throughout her life. From her early days working at Smith Corona to her time at Zayre and Walmart in the fabric department. Shirley's most beloved passion was to use her creative talents to make quilts for her loved ones. She was a licensed real estate broker with Murray Real Estate (where she met Bob), owned a charming coffee shop in Homer, NY, and was known for her delicious pies and cookies.

Shirley and her loving husband, Eugene, lived in Freeville, NY, with their 5 children, until he was tragically taken from them. In summer time, on Little York Lake, Her and Bob would host an annual pig roast event. During Christmas, Shirley was famous for her sweet treats, including fudge, rum balls, date nut balls, and popcorn balls, which she lovingly shared with family and friends. She recalled frequently picking apples with Brian. She also picked other fruits and vegetables with multiple family members to freeze and can.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mabel Hughes; first husband, Eugene Arthur Humphrey; second husband, Robert Duane Burlingame; son, Brian John Humphrey; grandchildren, Brandon Humphrey and Audra Tafoya.

Shirley's dedication to her family was unwavering. She leaves behind her children, Darby Humphrey (Joyce), Julie Totman (Dennis), Timothy Humphrey (Francine), Wendy Pitman (Tom), and Robin Dellinger (Glenn); grandchildren, Rhonda Jones (Mark), William Humphrey, Shane Humphrey, Troy Humphrey (Jessica), Amber Eckard (RJ), Denny Totman (Melissa), Chad Totman (Katie), Trevor Totman (Erica), Cody Humphrey (Kyleigh), Melinda Pitman (Rachel), Chelsea Lynch (Garry), Tom Pitman II (Samantha), Cassandra Gerhardt (Garrett), Christopher Gerhardt, Rachel Dellinger, and Megan Dellinger; 21 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; brother, Bill Hughes; nephew, Danny Hughes all of whom she cherished deeply.

A committal service in Dryden, NY, will be held at a later date.

Shirley's legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of all who were touched by her remarkable spirit.
