Sherrill Fowler Norman stepped into the arms of her heavenly father on October 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm. Loved ones were by her side.
Sherrill was born on September 30, 1947, at Winston Salem Baptist Hospital to parents, George Washington Fowler, Sr. and Edith Jewell Allen Fowler. She grew up on Willowbrook Circle, Lexington, NC.
She trusted Christ as her Savior at the age of 9 at Southside Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC during Vacation Bible School.
Sherrill met Gerry Joe Norman, who was attending NC State, in Granite Quarry, NC at an Easter parade. It was love at first sight. They later married at Erlanger Methodist Church in Lexington, NC. Joe enlisted in the Army shortly thereafter and when Sherrill could join him, they moved to Ft. Eustis, Virginia, where they were active at Denbigh Baptist Church, and made lifelong friends who encouraged and nurtured them in their service to the Lord.
After the military, their lives were filled with raising their daughter, Leah Norman Falzarano, and son, Grayson Arrington Norman, and finally settled in Gastonia, NC. During those years, Sherrill enjoyed her work as an Administrative Assistant at Cigna Healthcare Insurance Company, while lovingly raising their children and keeping them grounded at their church in Charlotte, NC. Her hobbies included, interior design in their home, gardening, and later learning to play billiards at which she and Joe won tournaments in the Seniors category through Lawrence H Patrick Senior Center in Kings Mountain, NC and traveled to Raleigh for the state finals, both winning Gold in the same year. They met many who became close friends over the years and enjoyed their love of pool. In 2021, they downsized to a smaller home in Belmont, NC, which Sherrill immaculately decorated as their dream home.
Sherrill is survived by her loving husband of (57 years) Gerry "Joe" Norman, and her children, daughter Leah Norman Falzarano (husband John), and son, Grayson Arrington Norman (wife Meredith), with two wonderful grandchildren, a granddaughter, Margaret (Maggie) Brooke Norman and grandson, Brock Davidson Norman.
Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Fowler, Sr. and Jewell Allen Fowler.
A memorial service will be held at Fairbluff Bible Chapel, 11:00am on Saturday, October 28, 2023, conducted by Bill Longstreet and Barry Brady.
Sherrill has specifically requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairbluff Bible Chapel, 4650 Fairbluff Place, Charlotte, NC 28209, or the American Cancer Society.
