Shelby Jean Gordy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelby Jean Gordy, who left us on August 28, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on March 8, 1940, in Greer, South Carolina, Shelby made her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she touched the lives of many.

Shelby was a talented softball player in her younger days, known for her fierce spirit and competitive nature. Her love for children found a perfect outlet in her work as an infant caregiver at a children's learning center, where she dedicated herself to nurturing the little ones and igniting their joy for learning.

Shelby was also known for her delicious cooking, especially her beloved chicken casserole and lemon pound cake, which will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them.

She is survived by her son, Kent Rose (Amy); grandchildren, Brittany Rose, Kristina Sleeper (Ian), Matt Rose (Kimberly), Kara Garvey, Taylor Moore (Jared), Sax Rose, and Christian Rose; great grandchildren, Hadley, Jason, Liam, and Logan; nephew, Gerald Copeland; niece, Tammy Smith (Bill), all who carry on her legacy of kindness and love.

Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, John Gordy; parents, Avery and Mamie Welborn; son, Jeff Rose; sisters, Shirley Copeland and Frances Dean.

A private service will be held at her church at a later date, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her vibrant life.

In our memories, Shelby will forever remain a bright light, a great athlete, a warm caregiver, and a fantastic cook. She will be dearly missed.
