Sharon Sue Scott

Dec 27, 1948 — Aug 15, 2026

Sharon Scott, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away August 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sharon was born on December 27, 1948, in Boone, North Carolina. She earned her degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, becoming the first of three generations in her family to earn a Computer Science degree from UNC Charlotte. She spent much of her career working in information technology at both Piedmont Natural Gas and UNC Charlotte.

Sharon was funny, independent, endlessly curious, and always ready with a story. She loved to learn and was just as happy sharing what she knew with others.

She especially enjoyed sitting around talking and laughing with family and friends, spending time with her grandsons, working on jigsaw puzzles, and recruiting family to help with her various home renovation projects.

Sharon will be remembered for her humor and stories, her curiosity and independent spirit, and the warmth and laughter she brought to those around her. Most of all, she will be remembered for the time she gave so freely to the people she loved and the many memories they created together.

Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Floyd and Addie Scott.

She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Hilliard, and her husband, Jason Hilliard; her son, Jason Lewis, and his wife, Jenni Kelleher; her grandchildren, Grant Hilliard and Ryan Hilliard; her sister, Carol Travis; and her brother, Steven Scott, and his wife, Robin Scott.

She is also survived by her nephews, Scott Travis and his wife, ReanéTravis; Joel Travis; Nathan Scott and his partner, Monica Stewart; Joey Scott and his wife, Cynthia Scott; Aaron Scott; and Logan Scott; and her niece, Rachel Steelman, and her husband, Nathaniel Steelman.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Sharon's life on Sunday, August 30, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion at Freedom Park, 2435 Cumberland Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203.

Rather than a traditional service, the afternoon will be an informal gathering to visit, share favorite stories, and celebrate Sharon together. In Sharon's spirit, we'll be serving spaghetti (her recipe) along with other light food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Guests are welcome to drop in at any time. Informal attire.
