6:00 - 8:00 pm (Eastern time)
Sharon Lynn Alexander, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on October 13, 2026, at Testa Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 29, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, Sharon touched the hearts of many with her warmth, wit, and unwavering spirit.
Sharon Lynn Alexander was the cherished daughter of Lloyd and Catherine Hoagland, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Kathleen Cole; her father-in-law, Dan Alexander; and her aunt, Juanita Alexander.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 27 years, Steve Alexander, who stood by her side with steadfast love and support throughout their life together and her courageous battle with illness.
Sharon's legacy lives on through her children, William Cole and his wife, Nicole, of Pennsylvania; and Amanda Scoggins and her husband, Allen, of Gastonia, North Carolina. She was a proud and loving grandmother to four treasured grandchildren: Martin and Cynthia Cole, and David Eion and Etta Cate Scoggins, who were truly the light of her life.
She is also survived by her brothers, Lloyd and Larry Hoagland of Louisville, Kentucky; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Richard and Suellen Alexander, Scott and Kathy Alexander, and Craig and Katy Alexander; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Sharon devoted more than 20 years to teaching, making a lasting difference in the lives of countless students. Her teaching career included four years at St. John Lutheran Church and School in Hamlin, New York, followed by many years at Rhyne Elementary School and Tryon Elementary School in Gastonia, North Carolina. Throughout her career, she served as a second grade, fourth-grade, and fifth-grade teacher and a reading specialist. Sharon's dedication to her students reflected her caring heart and desire to help others succeed. A devoted member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, she also found great joy in singing in the choir and sharing her love for Jesus. Her faith was an important part of her life. She wants others to know that, although she has left this earthly home, she has gone home to be with the Lord and hopes to see them there one day.
Sharon enjoyed spending time at the beach and, above all, making precious memories with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her loving nature, quick wit, and wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor. She had a special gift for making others feel welcome, comfortable, and loved. Whether through a kind word, a good laugh, or simply her presence, Sharon made people feel as though they were among friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Greene's Funeral Home, located at 1503 S. York Road.
A service celebrating Sharon's wonderful life will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, located at 716 Camp Rotary Road, Gastonia, NC 28052. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 5:00 p.m., one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Testa Hospice House in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Levine Children's Hospital, two organizations that were dear to Sharon and her family.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, love, and support throughout Sharon's journey, with special thanks to the compassionate staff at Testa Hospice House for the care and kindness they provided.
Sharon will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. As Sharon would say, she has "gone home" and looks forward to seeing all those she loved once again. May her faith bring comfort to those she leaves behind, and may her memory continue to shine as a guiding light in the lives of all who knew her.
