Sgt. Bunyan Durant Price, Jr., 20, of Belmont, was killed in action May 2, 1970 in Vietnam while fighting for our freedom. He was born February 9, 1950 in Union County, son of the late Bunyan Durant Price, Sr. and Virginia Carter. Bunyan was serving in the US Army. Sgt. Price was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Valorus Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with "60" Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm Device, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal Unit Citation (First Class), and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. He loved his family and loved to fish. Bunyan is survived by his brother, Dennis Price and wife, Donna; sisters, Brenda Harris, Wanda Hanley and husband, Ed and Arvonia England along with a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, April 11, 2015 at First Assembly of God - 777 S. Myrtle School Rd., Gastonia. The family will receive friends 6 - 9 pm Friday at the church. Burial with full military honors by the US Army will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
