Sarah Blair Pearson Knowles, 86, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and devoted friend died on Thursday, October 18, 2012. She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Joseph L. Knowles, her son and daughter- in- law, Henry Thomas and Susan Knowles of Charlotte, daughters, Eve Knowles Schaap and son- in-law, Tim, and Kimberly Marie Knowles; brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) T. Pearson and wife, Geraldine, all of Gastonia; grandchildren, John English Knowles, Katie Knowles Smitherman and husband, David. Sarah Knowles, born July 29, 1926, the daughter of John Thomas Pearson and Marice Goble Pearson, grew up in Gastonia, NC. Sarah was a very active member of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for 59 years. She was active in civic affairs serving on the Gaston College Board of Trustees, Gastonia Housing Authority Board of Trustees and held leadership roles in the Republican Party where she served two terms as President of Gaston County Republican Women and one term as chair of the 9th Congressional District. A memorial will be held on Monday, October 22, at 2:00pm at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Gastonia, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall before the memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First ARP Covenant Community Preschool, 317 S. Chester St, Gastonia, NC 28052 and the Robin Johnson Hospice House, 5005 Shepard's Way, Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral and Crematorium, Gastonia.
