Sarah Barnes Hendricks, 90, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.
She was born June 27, 1934, in Gaston Co, NC, daughter of the late Carilee and Frances Barnes.
Sarah was an amazing wife, mom, maw maw, and GG but the most important thing in Sarah's life was Christ. She didn't teach her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren in a practical/traditional way, she taught them Jesus. She lived the example. Her love was evident in all that she did. Sarah was a member of Temple Baptist Church for 88 years where she served alongside her husband Jim there for 66 years of that time. Sarah wasn't about titles. When asked if she was on a certain committee or did a certain thing, she would simply reply, "I just help where they need me." When experiencing the vagaries of life she never dwelt on the circumstance, she always had a story about how God was working and was bringing her through it. She was a prayer warrior that so many called on often. Her card ministry was a very special thing to her. If you ever received a card from Sarah, it wasn't just a communication gesture. You were prayed for, and she loved you. Sarah didn't have to know you to love or pray for you. If she had met you or heard about you, she would pray for you and probably send a card too. While Christ was first in her life she loved her family, especially those grandbabies. Whether you were a grand or a great grand she wanted to be there for everything. The baby dedications, birthday parties, school plays, band concerts and especially ball games. And if you asked her about the grandbabies, you better have time. She was not only going to tell you about them, but she also had pictures. Sarahs love for life was big because her love for Christ was bigger and if she could tell us anything today it would be. Accept Christ, love God and love people. She retired from Woolworth/Woolco after 31 years, where she was a bookkeeper, accountant, and store opener. She also worked at Walmart for 23 years, where she was an invoicing clerk, and auditor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Hendricks; son, James "Lee" Hendricks; grandson, James "Jimmy" Pearson, Jr. and wife Rachel Pearson; and son-in-law, James "Jimmy" Pearson, Sr.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Lori Pearson; grandchildren, Melanie Addis (Joe), Katie Crofts (Wesley), Joseph "JoJo" Gathings, and Heather Smith (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Kendall Addis, Cooper Addis, and Henry Crofts; feline kid, Fancey; and grand dog, Houston Oliver Pearson.
