Sara Lewis Cook Starr, 87, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Abingdon Place. She was born May 21, 1926 in White Plains, Georgia, daughter of the late Benjamin Owen and Ruth Cook. Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harbin Starr and her brother, Benjamin Cook, Jr. She is survived by her son, Baxter Starr and wife, Cynthia of Gastonia; grandchildren, Adam and Rachel Starr of Gastonia; and her sister, Christine Bryce of Greensboro, Georgia. Mrs. Starr was a Graduate of Green County High School in Greensboro, Georgia and Athens Business College in Athens, Georgia. She was a longtime member of Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church and a current member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a retired bookkeeper for several furniture stores in Gastonia with her last employment being at The Vogue. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 20 in the mausoleum chapel at Gaston Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Dr. Kent Cranford and Rev. Keith Love. Entombment will follow the service in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of Baxter Starr. Memorials may be sent to Loray Baptist Church, 1128 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052, or Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054. The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Abingdon Place and Gaston Hospice for the care provided to Sara during her brief illness.
